Moore Curriculum

Moore Elementary

Math

网上体育投注官网My Math curriculum is utilized in grade levels K-5. Additionally, Boevers teachers collaborate to plan and implement math units designed around essential standards and concept development.

Moore Math Mentors

网上体育投注官网In 2014, Moore partnered with Tulsa Area Regional STEM Alliance and Baker Hughes Tulsa to provide our students with content-based mentoring.

网上体育投注官网Members from the community support our students on a weekly basis and provide them with excellent math content support.  We are always looking to expand our Math Mentor community to support our students!  If you are interested in becoming a math mentor, please contact the principal's office.

Literacy

Balanced Literacy is a research-based approach that provides students a wide variety of ways in which they will become skilled readers and writers. Children are exposed to a strong reading mentor who instructs on skills, strategies, and discussions about reading. Students engage in high volumes of text that will require high levels of comprehension. Mastering this will then allow students to move to more complex texts. Balanced Literacy is greatly enriched through the use of the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model. This is a scaffolding instructional approach modeled first by the teacher (I do), next students practice through active engagement (we do), which is further practiced in a partnership (2 do), followed by independent practice (you do) of the focus skill or strategy.

Components of the Balanced Literacy framework:

Literacy Assessments (Drive instruction for Balanced Literacy components)

  • Reading Workshop
  • Small Group Instruction
  • Shared Reading
  • Writing Workshop
  • Shared/Interactive Writing
  • Interactive Read-aloud (to include accountable talk)
  • Word Study

Science

Discovery Science and Project Lead the Way (STEM curriculum) are utilized in grades K-5.

Social Studies

TCI is utilized by K-5th Grade.

Character Counts!

网上体育投注官网Character Counts is a district-wide program from kindergarten through high school for students and staff. It gives us a common language and encourages outstanding character traits.

A new character trait is introduced each month. The six traits that are emphasized are Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Trustworthiness, Fairness and Citizenship.  Students are awarded by their peers at our monthly Character Counts Assemblies.

Character Counts assemblies feature a grade level musical performance, special guest speaker, and many other fun surprises.  Contact Brooke Kasbaum for more information.

First/Second Grade Looping

This same-grade configuration allows for students to remain with the teacher for both their first and second grade years.  This continuity allows for continued academic progress and a greater connection between the student, classmates, and families.  We currently offer one first grade and one second grade looping classrooms.

STEM

网上体育投注官网STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) at Union Public Schools is an interdisciplinary approach to learning that encourages students to inquire, explore, and problem solve.

Moore implements STEM through the support of Project Lead The Way (PLTW).  PLTW is the nation’s leading provider of STEM education curricular programs for elementary, middle and high school students.

网上体育投注官网PLTW’s elementary program is designed for students in kindergarten through fifth grades and will align with Oklahoma state standards and Next Generation Science Standards. Through a series of topic-based modules, students will engage in design problems that encourage collaboration, analysis, problem solving, and computational thinking. For more information about STEM or PLTW at Moore, please contact teachers Brittany Gray or Janet Teel.

Multiage Program

网上体育投注官网Moore offers a Multiage Program which is a combination class of first and second grade students.  The students remain with the same teacher for two years.

网上体育投注官网Students receive instruction based on their personal academic level regardless of age or grade.  The teacher builds a strong sense of community among the students, while allowing the second year students to be leaders to the younger students.  We currently offer six multiage classrooms.

Gifted/Talented Enrichment

网上体育投注官网Moore students identified as gifted/talented are provided an instructional program which supports, enriches and differentiates the regular educational curricula.

The teacher, Brenda Maier, holds a master’s degree in Teaching and Learning from OSU and is a member of The Oklahoma Association for Gifted, Creative, & Talented.  Mrs. Maier is also a published children’s author.
